I'm wondering why you've had to wait so long for your perm implants? Is it because of the other issues you're experiencing? I'm so sorry you've had such a rough road. I agree with you that it's better to know upfront what possible complications can happen - even if it turns out the worries were unnecessary - than to be blind-sided with something totally unexpected.
EveEve Wallingahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17791396884784344228noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2419749628386702268.post-78899381655181698712013-09-03T12:09:42.060-07:002013-09-03T12:09:42.060-07:00Mary,

Many caretakers are visibly upset when told to use a specific arm for labs or BP!
Through the years I've learned not to trust anyone to protect my right arm. I use a permanent RED or Black Marker and in Large Letters, I write,"No IV or BP." on the inside of my right arm. Some docs go toxs! They may not like it but it
serves my purpose. ♥ Judith
Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2419749628386702268.post-63997992803084794862013-08-30T17:35:19.373-07:002013-08-30T17:35:19.373-07:00I had one sentinel node removed for biopsy when I ...I had one sentinel node removed for biopsy when I had my mastectomies. Either it's not noted on my charts or it's ignored at most facilities. I have to remind them more than once during the same visit or procedure. If I'm not conscious, I wonder if they are going to pump tight blood pressure cuffs or do blood draws and place IV's in my affected arm. They are not the ones to suffer consequences of lymphedema. If only I could have it tattooed on that arm, but tattoos are off limits.Mary Fritschnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2419749628386702268.post-63085149421184035142013-08-30T14:47:29.859-07:002013-08-30T14:47:29.859-07:00Hi, I am in Glasgow Scotland. One year on from Bi-lat MX with recon - still waiting on perm implants.I kept asking about the risk, but was more or less dismissed as not like to happen or at least for 15 yrs. I don't have swelling in my arm, but have the other sensations. Never related them to Lymphedema. I agree with what you said - 'As breast cancer survivors, we often encounter well-meaning family or friends who seem to think that once cancer treatment is completed, we should all just be thankful we’re alive and get on with our lives. Almost like it’s an affront to them if our minds and bodies are still reeling from the ramifications' If I knew this would happen I would have been prepared to handle it.Weemehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14417614288862310076noreply@blogger.com
